A massive snowstorm in Denver caused nationwide flight delays and cancellations the weekend of December 22, 2006. These disruptions caused longer than usual wait times at the Denver airport and airports with Denver connections, and passengers were at risk of not making it to their holiday destinations.
To alleviate the long lines in Denver and help passengers complete their holiday travel, TSA deployed 55 members of our National Deployment Force (NDF) Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) from Las Vegas and 13 TSOs from Colorado Springs to assist Denver in their time of need. These dedicated employees demonstrated their commitment to TSA’s overall security mission by assisting their fellow Denver TSOs and passengers during the holiday rush. Their deployment contributed to a significant drop in wait times by opening all checkpoint lanes around the clock until all flights got out.
TSOs from Colorado Springs drove 1.5 to 2 hours each way over the weekend to provide support in Denver, and NDF members in Las Vegas were flown to Denver courtesy of United Airlines.
The National Deployment Force is comprised of a team of Transportation Security Officers who assist when there are event or crisis related situations that require additional security related screening support. In the past, NDF team members have provided screening support for events such as the Super Bowl, Lebanese American Repatriation, and natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina.
