Transportation Assistant

United States Coast Guard (USCG) Positions

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Transportation Assistant controls the movement of the household goods of personnel and provides official transportation to meet district objectives consistent with the intent, coverage, and content of instructions, guides, precedents, and regulations pertaining to the shipment and storage of household goods. The Transportation Assistant orients and counsels personal property owners experiencing difficulties, develops the correct combination of entitlements applicable to conditions and restrictions at new duty stations, and coordinates emergency moves. Assignments include duties which involve a wide range of personal property matters which may require group orientation or counseling sessions. The Transportation Assistant assists personal property owners experiencing difficulties and arranges passenger transportation for individuals and groups, via air, bus, or rail.

KSAs:

• Ability to coordinate the efforts of others.
• Word processing skills.
• Oral and written communication skills.
• Practical knowledge of technical shipment operations and the extensive body of rules and procedures governing the shipment of household goods and other personal property.
• Ability to conduct training and orientation or counseling sessions on personal property matters.
• Knowledge of government travel regulations and military transportation authorizations.
