TSA’s explosives experts at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) were called to inspect a piece of checked luggage after Transportation Security officers discovered five grenades inside the bag on Saturday, Dec. 3. The TSA explosives team determined that the grenades were inert and the Belgium-bound passenger surrendered her items to officials. There was no impact to airport operations.
Transportation Security officers at EWR also discovered a credit card knife in the wallet of a passenger headed to Los Angeles on Saturday. Port Authority Police responded, confiscated the weapon and allowed the man to fly to his destination. Transportation Security officers at EWR also discovered a similar credit card knife at a checkpoint during the busy Thanksgiving week of travel.
As a reminder, passengers can review the prohibited items list on the TSA homepage or they can download the free MyTSA application from the TSA homepage at www.tsa.gov to be able to have the prohibited items list on their SmartPhone or iPad.
