A knife disguised as a belt buckle was stopped at a TSA checkpoint at Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday, Dec. 4, when an alert Transportation Security Officer detected the weapon attached to a pair of pants that were packed inside a California man’s carry-on bag.

The concealed knife was detachable from the buckle and could easily be used as a weapon. (See photos below.) Port Authority Police were notified and responded to the checkpoint. The passenger, who was headed to Chicago, voluntarily surrendered the weapon to TSA and was cleared to fly.

As a reminder, passengers can review the prohibited items list on the TSA homepage or they can download the free MyTSA application from the TSA homepage at www.tsa.gov to be able to have the prohibited items list on their SmartPhone or iPad.
