Good Catch
December 19, 2011

A passenger was stopped at a Reagan-Washington National Airport security checkpoint on December 19th when TSA Officers discovered two throwing daggers hidden inside a hollowed-out book in the man's carry-on. Both throwing daggers measured slightly more than six inches, and were artfully concealed in the hardcover book.
The passenger, who was traveling to Chicago, voluntarily surrendered the knives and book. TSA has the authority to impose civil penalties against passengers who bring deadly weapons into airport checkpoints.
TSA recognizes that most passengers who carry prohibited items do so without any intent to harm others, but even common items like books can be used to hide a potential threat. That's why TSA Officers are trained to look beyond the ordinary to make sure that dangerous items and people are not able to board aircraft.
