In collaboration with the area's law enforcement agencies, TSA Iowa hosted a one-day training course on MANPADS (Man Portable Air Defense System). Attendees were provided opportunities to handle an actual inert training simulator to experience the weapon's weight and feel.

The training, provided by Instructor James Scott, Division Deputy Chief, TSA Office of Law Enforcement, helped law enforcement officers from local, state, federal and military branches identify MANPADS components and familiarize themselves with the weapon's potential threat. It was the third collaborative effort in recent months to reach out and strengthen channels of communication with local law enforcement agencies.

"These training courses continue to identify common threads within our agencies like never before," said Pat Harrigan, Assistant FSD-Law Enforcement, Iowa. Sergeant James McKinney of the Des Moines Police Department called the training "very informative and current with the world we live in."

As a result of TSA's growing network of law enforcement from the checkpoints to the streets, highways and our communities "we're pooling our resources and educating across agency lines so we can better mitigate the threats we face today," said Iowa FSD Jay Brainard.
