Airport Security Does Not Stop at the Security Checkpoint

News & Happenings

February 14, 2007

In addition to TSA employees working throughout the aviation system, airline and airport employees are also trained to identify unusual behavior in both travelers and their fellow employees. The participation of these employees further strengthens our layers of security.

On Saturday, February 10, 2007, a pilot and first officer with Atlantic Southeast Airlines were heading to their passenger plane on the tarmac of the Baton Rouge (La.) Metropolitan Airport when they came across a contract employee who did not have appropriate identification while in the secure area.  The pilots questioned the employee and immediately reported the incident to TSA officials. This incident led to his termination that day.

To ensure all baggage was secure, 36 passengers were quickly deplaned and all checked baggage was re-screened.  The flight incurred a minor delay but arrived at its destination safely.

TSA appreciates the awareness of these airline employees and their role in keeping our aviation system secure.
