TSA Pioneer Departing DHS

Today, Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Jackson announced that he will be leaving the department effective October 26, 2007.
Jackson's committed public service, both at DHS and at the Department of Transportation (DOT), was critical to the establishment, standup and success of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
While serving as Deputy Secretary of Transportation in 2001, Jackson helped to lead the government's response on 9/11 and was deeply involved in the creation of TSA.
Jackson's dedication and planning allowed for a streamlined transition from private to federalized security. As DHS Deputy Secretary, Jackson has consistently used his expertise in transportation security issues to help TSA evolve and improve.
"Michael Jackson is a leader and a friend to the women and men of TSA. We would not be where we are today without his commitment to the mission and support of its people," said Administrator Kip Hawley.
