Every July, Americans across the country come together to celebrate our nation’s independence. From parks to parades, baseball games to barbeques, the Fourth of July is a time for celebration and patriotism.

One of the many traditions accompanying Independence Day is the lighting of fireworks. Fireworks can be beautiful and awe inspiring and, when used appropriately and safely, they are a great way to celebrate our nation’s independence. However, fireworks are inherently dangerous, which is why they are not permitted in checked baggage or through security checkpoints. All fireworks, including bottle rockets and sparklers, can put passengers, crew and aircraft in danger.

The safety and security threat from fireworks is serious. They are explosives and, whether mistakenly or intentionally, attempting to get fireworks aboard the aircraft can lead to a fine or other civil penalties.

Before leaving for the airport, take a look at our prohibited items list and always take a moment to check your bags for any these items. Taking a few extra minutes at home can save you time at the checkpoint. Your experience at the airport will be more enjoyable as will the experiences of those in line behind you.

For your safety and the safety of your fellow passengers, please leave the fireworks at home while traveling by air this year.
