Remembering 9/11: The tragic events of six years ago remain as vivid today as they were then for Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez.
Gonzalez remembers exactly where he was during the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
Then the Marlins third-base coach, Gonzalez had just dropped his kids off at Cutler Ridge Elementary, and then he stopped off at Home Depot.
"On the way home, I was listening to one of the local radio stations, and they broke in with the news," Gonzalez said.
To honor the occasion, the Marlins are holding a special moment of silence at 9:11.
As part of the pregame ceremonies on Tuesday, the organization honored the TSA airport workers on the field.
Gonzalez says sports has a way of helping the healing process.
"I think if you look at history, with wars, it is big when baseball came back," Gonzalez said. "Or if you look at [Hurricane] Katrina in New Orleans, when football came back, sports are big. For people, those three hours of watching sports help."
