TSA Develops Strong Transportation Security Leaders

News & Happenings

October 9, 2009

On October 9, 2009 the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report on TSA's senior executive employees and their attrition rates. As part of the report, GAO points to TSA's success in retaining strong leaders at the highest levels of the agency.

Since 2007, the attrition of senior leaders at TSA has been equal to or less than the average across the government. TSA's aggressive recruiting of highly experienced, dedicated individuals with significant expertise in the fields related to our security mission has resulted in a strong and collaborative Senior Leadership Team that pushes the agency forward. As GAO notes, TSA has a rigorous process for executive resources management consistent with effective human capital management practices and standards.

Recruiting and retaining the best and brightest leaders is a key initiative for TSA. We have developed a Senior Leadership Development Program (SLDP) and Mid-Level Leadership Development Program (MLDP) to identify and train the future leaders of the agency. The programs consists of intensive career development skills-building, mentoring and hands-on projects aimed at increasing the capacity and bench strength of the TSA workforce at the executive level.

TSA is committed to maintaining a workplace environment where our executives can use their experience to advance the agency's security mission and mentor our future leaders.
