Transportation Security Officer Luke Ison was examining a checked bag at Huntsville-Madison County (Ala.) Airport on Aug. 15 when he lifted a shoe from a passenger’s bag. He dropped the shoe in sudden disbelief and quickly relayed a message to his coworkers that "it" moved. Upon investigation, a live boa constrictor was found inside the shoe.

The passenger had been told at the airline ticket counter that it could not be carried on the plane. But the passenger hid the snake in his shoe – then packed it in his checked baggage.

Neither the reptile nor his companion was permitted to fly.
