FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced Tuesday that Shannon Garcia-Hamilton, a top manager for TSA at Los Angeles International Airport, has been named Acting Federal Security Director (FSD) at Lihue Airport in Hawaii.

Since September 2002 Garcia-Hamilton has served as TSA's Stakeholder/Customer Support Manager at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). In that position she worked with 102 airlines and the airport authority to establish partnerships to help fulfill TSA's goal of providing world-class security and customer service.

"Shannon Garcia-Hamilton has the leadership skills to develop similar strong partnerships in Lihue," said Rear Adm. David M. Stone, TSA's Acting Administrator. "The ultimate beneficiaries will be the airport's passengers."

Garcia-Hamilton, who has served on TSA's National Customer Support Manager Advisory Council, joined the agency in September 2002. She also has served as the Deputy Assistant FSD for Screening.

Garcia-Hamilton previously worked for United Airlines in Los Angeles from 1993 to 2002, serving as Cargo Supervisor and rising to the position of Operations Manager. After the terrorist attacks of 9/11, she was United's Emergency Response Coordinator at the LAX Crisis Center, providing compassionate service to families of the victims of United Flight 175 from Boston to Los Angeles.

Garcia-Hamilton has a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems from the University of Phoenix, Los Angeles.
