MIAMI – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today named Mark Hatfield Jr. federal security director for Miami International Airport (MIA).

Hatfield joined TSA in 2002 and most recently served as the federal security director at Newark Liberty International Airport. Prior to that post, he served as assistant administrator for communications and public affairs at the agency's headquarters in Arlington, VA. During TSA's formative years, Hatfield served as the primary spokesperson tasked with articulating the agency's mission to the traveling public.

“Mark's leadership was a part of TSA's early success and he continues to be a trusted professional within the organization,” said Mo McGowan, assistant administrator for Security Operations. “His recent experience combined with his communications skills make him the ideal candidate to lead TSA's security operations in Miami.”

Prior to joining TSA, Hatfield was the director of corporate communications for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Hatfield brings more than 25 years of security, crisis management and communications experience including leadership positions in the White House, the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Department of Energy.
