Albany, N.Y. – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced today that Brian Johansson has been named federal security director (FSD) at Albany International Airport where he will oversee all TSA security operations.
"Johansson is a proven leader and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new position," said Mo McGowan, TSA assistant administrator for Security Operations.
Prior to joining TSA in 2002, Johansson retired from the U.S. Army as director of air operations for its 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta at Fort Bragg, N.C. As part of the U.S. Army’s Special Operations Aviation Program, he has conducted airport security surveys at over 75 airports in more than 50 countries throughout the world, and flew multiple combat reconnaissance and gunship missions throughout Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Since 2002, he has served TSA in an administrative capacity at Syracuse-Hancock (N.Y.) International Airport and, more recently, as that airport’s assistant FSD.
Johansson received his bachelor's degree in zoology from the University of Vermont where he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Following armor officer training, he attended the U.S. Army's flight school and graduated in 1984 as a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter pilot.
