NORFOLK, Va. – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) named Jeff Horowitz federal security director (FSD) for Norfolk International Airport. Additionally, Horowitz will oversee Newport News/ Williamsburg International Airport.

Previously, Horowitz served as the assistant federal security director (AFSD) of screening at Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) where he oversaw the security screening operation. Simultaneously, Horowitz was selected as a charter member of the National Advisory Council (NAC), a committee of TSA employees who communicate, address and resolve concerns from the field at TSA headquarters. He was also selected to participate in the Senior Leadership Development Program (SLDP).

"As someone who has risen through the ranks at TSA, Jeff brings an immense amount of knowledge about the security operation to his current capacity as FSD," said Mo McGowan, TSA's assistant administrator for Security Operations. "His leadership and dedication to the mission will ensure we continue to build on the strong foundation of security established at Norfolk."

Horowitz began his career with TSA in March 2002 as a member of the Mobile Screening Force that initiated the federalization of airports around the country. He became a supervisory transportation security officer (TSO), and later a security manager before rising the to AFSD role. Prior to joining TSA, Horowitz worked for the New York City Emergency Medical Service and later retired from the New York City Police Department where he served as a police officer.

He holds a bachelor's degree in security management and is currently finishing his master's degree in labor policy studies; both are from the State University of New York, Empire College.
