On her way home from work recently, Transportation Security Officer Julie Marzioni of Orlando Sanford (Fla.) International Airport made a quick decision that may well have saved the life of a 12-year-old boy.
Driving through a residential neighborhood, Marzioni came across several young men of high school age who had surrounded the boy and beat him in the street. Without hesitating and without regard for her own safety, Marzioni stopped her car to save the boy, who was on the ground covered in blood from being punched and kicked.
Marzioni helped the boy to her car as she called the police and his parents. Police, who recognized her TSA uniform, thanked her for protecting the flying public and for getting involved in her community.
“There are many people today that would have chosen to simply continue on and not get involved,” said Assistant Federal Security Director James Mathers. “Officer Marzioni chose to risk her own safety to assist a complete stranger and may have even saved his life. She is to be commended for her heroic actions of selflessness!”
