RICHMOND, Va. - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has named Annie Nelson federal security director (FSD) for Richmond International Airport. Nelson will also oversee four additional airports in Virginia.

Nelson joined TSA in 2005 and served as staff director of the South Central Area Regional Office before advancing to become deputy federal security director at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport; the fifth busiest airport in the nation. Nelson also served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in the Pentagon, culminating in her appointment to the Intelligence Senior Executive Service where she was the senior administrator for support operations within the Intelligence Policy and Security directorate.

"Annie Nelson has a strong background in aviation and homeland security," said Lee Kair, TSA's assistant administrator for Security Operations. "Her diverse experiences and commitment to leadership will ensure we continue to build on the strong security foundation established at Richmond."

Prior to joining TSA Nelson held concurrent military and civilian roles that included a 20-year military career in the U.S. Army National Guard, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel before retiring in 1994.

Nelson holds a master's degree in organizational development and is a graduate of the U.S. Army's Command and General Staff College.
