LUBBOCK, Texas - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has named John Sides as federal security director for the West Texas region that has responsibility for security at the Lubbock Preston Smith International, Midland International, Rick Husband Amarillo International, Abilene Regional and San Angelo Regional airports.

Sides joined TSA in August 2002 as federal security director at the Tucson International Airport. Previously, Sides served for over 30 years in the Air Force, including assignments during a 10-year period as a detachment commander, missile combat crew commander and squadron commander. Most of his career was spent in operational assignments working with missile operations.

Sides retired from the Air Force in 2001 as a colonel. His last duty assignment was as vice commander of the National Air and Space Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio.

"Colonel Sides will be a tremendous asset to the West Texas region," said Lee Kair, TSA assistant administrator, Office of Security Operations. "Colonel Sides has been with TSA since its inception and has helped develop the agency into a robust and dynamic organization."

Born and raised in Hyndman, Pa., Sides is a 1967 graduate of Hyndman High School. He attended The Citadel, graduating in 1971.
