WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today announced David Bassett has been named federal security director (FSD) for Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn. Bassett comes to Bradley from TSA headquarters in Arlington, Va. where he served as director for the South East area and led a team of twenty-one deputy area directors and FSDs. He has been with the TSA since September 2002.

"Dave’s breadth of knowledge and experience in aviation security, his leadership style and unwavering commitment to the safety of the traveling public will be an invaluable asset to Bradley Airport," said Lee Kair, TSA's assistant administrator for Security Operations. "TSA’s officers and staff at Bradley will be fortunate to have a manager so dedicated to ensuring a positive, productive and security-focused work environment."

Prior to overseeing TSA’s South East area, Bassett served as the agency’s general manager of programs and plans. He has also served as FSD for the Greater Rochester International and the Buffalo Niagara International Airports and the Denver International Airport; which is the 4th busiest in the U.S and the 10th busiest in the world. At Denver he was responsible for all aspects of TSA security operations, including leadership and oversight of approximately 800 transportation security officers and staff. He is one of the first FSDs to successfully lead TSA operations at every size airport ranging from Category X to Category IV.

Bassett is currently serving as a captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve. His background includes anti-terrorism/force protection, NATO intelligence, explosive ordinance disposal, and diving operations. Bassett replaces Peter Boynton as FSD at Bradley. Boynton left TSA in August 2009 to serve as the commissioner of the Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS) for the state of Connecticut.
