Statement by TSA Administrator John Pistole on the Ninth Anniversary of the September 11, 2001, Terrorist Attacks

Saturday, September 11, 2010

Statement:

“On the ninth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks our nation pauses to remember and honor the nearly 3,000 people who died on that tragic day - a day that sparked helplessness and fear, but also hope and resolve, as the American people united with a shared determination to protect our freedoms and strengthen our nation’s security. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was formed in the aftermath of those attacks to ensure Americans continue to travel securely and freely – a solemn responsibility that TSA fulfills with frontline security measures including watch list matching for 100 percent of flights on domestic airlines and the deployment of more than 700 canine teams across the country. Our nation’s security is a shared responsibility and as we remember both the heroism and tragedy of September 11, I encourage our citizens, communities and country to remain vigilant and continue to build a national culture of preparedness and resiliency."
