WASHINGTON – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today named John Sanders as the Assistant Administrator for the Office of Security Capabilities.
In this role, Sanders will oversee security screening systems deployed to airports nationwide and will be responsible for the operational testing and evaluation, procurement, deployment and installation of airport security equipment.
"John brings to this new challenge an abundance of experience and a deep and varied knowledge of aviation security technologies," said TSA Administrator John S. Pistole. "His diverse background, both within TSA and among innovative private sector technology leaders provide essential leadership in this area as the agency continues using both intelligence and technology as key drivers of its risk-based security model."
Most recently, Sanders served as the Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Office of Security Capabilities where his responsibilities included assisting in the acquisition, and supervision of security technologies deployed across multiple modes of transportation.
Prior to joining TSA, Sanders co-founded Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc., and was the company's Executive Vice President. He is the former Vice President of Corporate Development for SAIC's Vehicle and Cargo Inspection System (VACIS) product line, and has also held senior management positions in government affairs and business development at PerkinElmer Detection Systems, Vivid Technologies and Quantum Magnetics.
Sanders holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from University of California San Diego and an Masters of Science in Physics from San Diego State University.
