Statement by Secretary Michael Chertoff

We have been in close contact with our counterparts in the U.K. regarding today’s incident at the Glasgow airport and yesterday’s car bomb discoveries in London. Our law enforcement and intelligence officials are closely monitoring the ongoing investigations. The senior leadership of the U.S. government has been meeting on these issues both yesterday and today. DHS and the FBI have provided updates and protective measures guidance to our state and local homeland security and law enforcement partners.

TSA Begins Travel Document Checking Pilot Program at JFK Airport

TSA Names Lambert-St. Louis International Airport as Gateway for General Aviation Access to

WASHINGTON - The Transportation Security Administration today named Lambert-St. Louis International Airport (STL) the newest gateway airport for Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). That designation allows certain pre-cleared general aviation operations, including corporate aircraft, charter flights and on-demand operations, to fly directly from Lambert-St. Louis to Reagan National.

TSA Names Barbara Bonn Powell Deputy Federal Security Director for Newark-Liberty International Airport

Press Release

NEWARK, N.J. – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today named Barbara Bonn Powell as deputy federal security director (DFSD) for Newark-Liberty International Airport. Powell has served as acting DFSD at Newark-Liberty since December 2006.

As acting DFSD, Powell assisted the FSD with all federal security responsibilities, including management of a security workforce of over 1,300 men and women at one of the busiest airports in the country.

Key West and Florida Keys Marathon Airports Awarded Private Screening Contract Under Screening Partnership Program

WASHINGTON – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today announced the selection of Raytheon Technical Services of Reston, Va., as the private screening contractor for Key West International and Florida Keys Marathon airports under the Screening Partnership Program (SPP). Raytheon will team with McNeil Security Inc. of Springfield, Va., for this contract.

TSA Attorney Named Transportation Security Lawyer of the Year by the Federal Bar Association

WASHINGTON – Transportation Security Administration (TSA) attorney Hattie Broussard today was named Transportation Security Lawyer of the Year by the Federal Bar Association. This award recognizes attorneys, in either government service or private practice, who have made significant contributions to the field in the previous year or who have distinguished themselves through consistent professional activity during their career.
