HOUSTON – Port workers, longshoremen, truckers and others at the ports of La Porte, Galveston and Freeport, Texas will begin enrolling individuals in the Department of Homeland Security's Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program. The program's goal is to ensure that any individual who has unescorted access to secure areas of port facilities and vessels has received a thorough background check and is not a security threat. Nationwide, more than 1 million workers with unescorted access to secure areas will apply in 2008.

WASHINGTON – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced today pilots of millimeter wave technology to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Millimeter wave is currently in use at Phoenix Sky-Harbor International Airport. Millimeter wave detects weapons, explosives and other threat items concealed under layers of clothing without any physical contact. It is a promising alternative to the physical pat-down.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has named Nancy Baggott as the federal security director for Long Beach Airport, Long Beach, Calif. Baggott has worked in the TSA's Transportation Security Operations Center since 2003, most recently serving as command duty officer responsible for the operational coordination and crisis management response on a national scale.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today announced the selection of Daniel E. Liddell as the Federal Security Director (FSD) for Syracuse (N.Y.) Hancock International Airport (SYR). As the FSD, he will oversee all TSA operations at Syracuse Hancock and spoke operations at Binghamton, Ithaca, Watertown, Ogdensburg, Massena and Rome airports, all in New York.
