TSA Pre✓™ application center now open at Miami International Airport

MIAMI — The Transportation Security Administration and Miami International Airport (MIA) today announced the opening of an application site for TSA Pre✓™, an expedited screening program that allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and keep 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels in a carry-on bag. TSA is currently in the process of expanding to more than 300 application centers across the country.

DHS achieves trusted traveler program milestones

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security recently achieved two major milestones for its trusted traveler programs. The Transportation Security Administration Pre✓™ application program, which began in December 2013, has now enrolled more than half a million travelers. Additionally, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has enrolled more than three million users in their trusted traveler programs: Global Entry, NEXUS and SENTRI.

TSA discovers loaded firearm at Memphis International Airport

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Transportation Security Administration discovered a loaded firearm at a Memphis International Airport (MEM) checkpoint Sunday morning. 

At approximately 9 a.m. July 20, a loaded .40 Smith & Wesson was discovered in a passenger's carry-on bag. TSA immediately alerted airport police, who took possession of the bag and cited the passenger on local charges.

While firearms may be transported in checked baggage — provided they are declared to the airline, in a proper carrying case and unloaded — they are prohibited in carry-on bags.
