    A special recognition goes out to Marion Blakey. Marion has been a great partner at the FAA and a good friend. I think history is going to show her to be a great leader at a critical time for the agency. It’s too early for her to take a victory lap, but all of us at TSA are better off for her contributions, so thank you Marion.

    It is a great honor to share the podium with my good friend and colleague Marjeta Jager. I am especially pleased to be here following the signing of our recent historic agreement to harmonize security.

    SECRETARY CHERTOFF: Good morning. We'd like to provide you with the latest information that we have on recent events in the United Kingdom, and an update on the actions that we are taking to protect our citizens and to keep air travel safe and secure. We want to be as open as possible with the public about the facts; at the same time, it's important, I'm sure you'll understand, that we preserve confidentiality of matters that are necessary in order to complete this investigation. And we also have to respect the demands of the British legal process, which puts certain restrictions on what can be said about ongoing cases.

    Thank you, Gunther, for your kind introduction. It is a great pleasure to be among so many distinguished leaders, and I am honored that IATA has asked me to address you today.

    Gatherings like this remind each of us how connected we are, despite the separation of national boundaries. We know from recent experience that we are not working alone in our efforts to diminish terrorism, the impact of natural disasters, and our exposure to new dangerous flus. We are strengthened by colleagues and partners around the world.
