Comparability

HME-TWIC Comparability:

Effective February 26, 2013, anotherState (the Commonwealth of Virginia) will offer comparability to Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) holders applying for an Hazardous Materials Endorsement (HME) which gives them the option to pay a reduced fee since the security threat assessments for both programs are comparable. See the full listing of States, provided below, that offer comparability.

HME STA applicants are eligible to use their TWIC STA as a comparable STA during the application process in the following States (including the District of Columbia) as long as they hold a valid TWIC STA with at least one year remaining before expiration:

    1. Arizona
    2. California
    3. Delaware
    4. District of Columbia
    5. Hawaii
    6. Missouri
    7. Nebraska
    8. Nevada
    9. North Carolina
    10. Oregon
    11. South Dakota
    12. Utah
    13. Virginia
    14. West Virginia
    15. Wyoming
     

HME STA applicants are eligible to use their TWIC STA as a comparable STA during the application process in the following States as long as they hold a valid TWIC STA with at least four years remaining before expiration:

    1. Alabama
    2. Colorado
    3. Kansas
    4. Minnesota
    5. Montana
    6. New Jersey
    7. North Dakota
    8. Oklahoma
    9.Vermont
     

Applicants in all States above, except Virginia, can confirm their eligibility online with TSA during the HME STA application process at: hazprints.tsa.dhs.gov. The State of Virginia will confirm the eligibility of applicants online with TSA as part of its HME STA application process.
