Significant Travel Days

NASCARS’ biggest motorsports event of the year—the prestigious Daytona 500—is set for Sunday, February 26. The number of spectators can exceed 100,000 during Speedweeks races, held February 18-25, leading up to race day. The Daytona 500 race is expected to attract nearly 240,000 people to the Daytona International Speedway, including spectators, race teams, and security personnel.

Florida’s Daytona International Airport is the primary airport serving spectators and race teams. Air carriers have increased the size of aircraft and added additional daily flights to accommodate travelers. To expedite passenger security screening, TSA will have additional Transportation Security Officers at the checkpoint and offer extended hours on Monday, February 27 following race day.

During this high profile event, TSA Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) teams will conduct operations throughout the week at commercial aviation facilities. Teams augment other federal, state, and local transportation security and law enforcement personnel to reduce potential terrorist risks to the traveling public.
