Transit Security Grant Program (Tier I) Awards
Grant Awards for Fiscal Years 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009
- FY2009 grant awards total $312 million. In FY2009, both the Freight Rail Security Grant Program (FRSGP) and the TSGP Tier II program were awarded their entire target allocations of $15 Million and $36.6 Million respectively, due to an increase in the quantity and quality of applications. Thus, TSGP Tier I received their target allocation of $312 Million and not any additional funds from FRSGP and Tier II like in FY2008.
- Grant recipients are intracity rail, bus, and ferry systems in the 8 highest risk regions (high risk regions have the highest passenger volume and density, most underground or underwater track mileage, and most critical infrastructure).
- FY09 Funding Priorities reflect projects that prevent or protect against terrorism and will have an immediate impact in reducing risk. Examples: security training for frontline employees; visible/unpredictable deterrence activities, such as canine and mobile screening teams, and Visible Intermodal Protection and Response (VIPR) Teams; drills and exercises; and public awareness programs.
