GA Announces Acting General Manager

Brian Delauter was named Acting General Manager, General Aviation in July 2009.

Delauter has an extensive general aviation background and knowledge of all aspects of general aviation including corporate and recreational aircraft operations, airports, airspace and airmen issues.

In his new position, Delauter will use his extensive general aviation experience in government and private industry to lead TSA’s strategy to enhance security within the general aviation sector while reducing the risk of the misuse of GA assets by developing identification capabilities including positive pilot and aircraft identification.

Delauter joined TSA in 2002 as a stakeholder liaison and in 2006 he was appointed assistant federal security director at Jacksonville International Airport. In 2007, he was named federal security director at Savannah International Airport where he was responsible for all TSA activities at nine airports across two states.

Prior to joining TSA, Delauter spent more than 15 years in the aviation community as a general aviation pilot as well as a commercial aviator with Northwest Airlines. He currently holds multiple Federal Aviation Administration licenses including Commercial Single Engine Land, Commercial Multi Engine Land, Airline Transport Pilot and Flight Instructor (Single Engine, Multi Engine and Instrument).

Delauter began his career as a flight instructor at Elgin Air Force Base in Florida and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in aviation management from the Florida Institute of Technology.

General aviation is a vital component of the aviation sector and national economy and accounts for 77 percent of all flights in the United States. It encompasses a wide range of activities, from pilot training to flying for business and personal reasons, delivery of emergency medical services and sightseeing.
