Claire Heffernan

Acting Assistant Administrator / Deputy Assistant Administrator for Legislative Affairs

Photo of Claire Heffernan Claire Heffernan joined TSA's Office of Legislative Affairs as the Deputy Assistant Administrator in May 2006. She had previously served as (acting) director of TSA's Legislative Policy office.

Before joining TSA, she was President Bush's appointed executive director for The President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health. Heffernan directed all aspects of the 22-member commission, created by executive order, which in one year produced recommendations for improving the delivery of public mental health services. Many of the recommendations have been implemented by both state and federal agencies.

Her prior experience includes time with several transportation industry trade associations and on Capitol Hill, where she worked for Senator Christopher (Kit) Bond (R-MO) as his principal policy advisor for transportation, environment, energy, public works and small business.

Heffernan is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington and earned a bachelor's degree in American Government from Georgetown University.
