Richard Ades became the Assistant Administrator for the Office of Strategic Communications and Public Affairs in March 2016. In this role, Ades oversees all external and internal communications responsibilities across the agency and develops strategic communications initiatives that are implemented nationwide. He heads a team of public affairs professionals who are responsible for media relations, strategic communications, websites, public outreach, social media, speech writing, branding, video production and employee communications.
Prior to assuming his current duties, Ades was a partner at Prism Public Affairs and worked as a senior executive at Powell Tate, the Washington office of the global public relations firm Weber Shandwick. He also served in the Clinton administration as senior speechwriter and communications advisor to the Secretary of Agriculture.
Ades has counseled on strategy and messaging for senior executives of Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, organizations and individuals on a variety of complex matters at the intersection of media, public policy and law. He has steered clients through many difficult situations involving coalitions, national media exposure and congressional investigations.
Prior his appointment in the Clinton administration, Ades was a writer and producer of independent films and television in Hollywood. He received his Bachelor of Science from Cornell University.
