Lead TSO Bowen receives an award from N.Y. State Assemblyman Will BarclaySyracuse Lead TSO Leroy Bowen was recently recognized by the state of New York for his military service and commitment to his community during a ceremony recognizing local veterans for their years of service.

Bowen, recently retired from the Army and credited with developing a "courtesy room" at the Syracuse airport for military service members to relax between flights, received a military service award from New York State Assemblyman Will Barclay at the ceremony.

Opened on July 29, the courtesy room – fully stocked with refreshments, comfortable chairs and books, is staffed by local volunteers. About 400 members of the military have used the facility so far.

To make the area a reality, Bowen collaborated with airport and government representatives and local military officials.

"Lead Bowen is not only a model officer and a military veteran, but continues to give to his community," said Security Manager Donna Brazee.
