TSA escorts oldest living female WWII veteran

Tuesday, July 29, 2014

At the age of 108, Lucy Coffey is the nation’s oldest living female WWII veteran. Thanks to the assistance of the Honor Flight Network at San Antonio International Airport, her dreams came true this past weekend when she flew to D.C., to attend the Women in Military Service for America Memorial in Arlington, Virginia. The Honor Flight Network grants veterans the opportunity to visit memorials in Washington, D.C., built and dedicated to honor their service.

Escorted by the TSA Honor Guard, the twice Bronze Star recipient was greeted by applause as she arrived to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. A member of the Women’s Army Corps, she holds a place in history as one of the first women, besides nurses, to serve within the ranks of the U.S. Army.
