TSA’s Disability and Multicultural Coalition Award Winners

Friday, September 20, 2024

TSA’s Civil Rights & Liberties, Ombudsman and Traveler Engagement office (CRLOTE) hosted the 22nd Annual TSA Disability and Multicultural Coalition Conference on September 24.

The conference is a part of stakeholder outreach efforts to improve engagement between protected communities and TSA. It promotes discussion about security screening and related concerns between TSA and organization leadership from religious, cultural, LGBTQI+ and disability/medical condition communities.

TSA recognized the following organizations for their contributions:

The Amputee Coalition - for its significant and exemplary collaboration and input to TSA during the past year. Amputee Coalition supports, educates and advocates for individuals impacted by limb loss and limb difference, fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion and equity in all aspects of their work. In April 2024, Amputee Coalition held an open forum concerning TSA screening and airport experiences for the traveling public with limb loss. The results of this open forum were shared with TSA and the agency is working to address the concerns raised in the forum.

Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) - for its significant collaboration and input to TSA during the past year. CAIR is the U.S.’s largest civil liberties organization, working to promote a positive image of Islam and Muslims in the United States. CAIR was recognized for providing valuable input to TSA on experiences of Muslim travelers with airport screening and putting forth the importance of ensuring the Muslim voice is represented, especially considering the rise in Islamophobia nationwide and globally.

Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) - for its significant collaboration and input to TSA during the past year. PVA is not only a TSA Coalition partner organization, but it is also a valued partner on the Aviation Security Advisory Committee Persons with Disabilities Working Group. PVA is the only nonprofit Veteran Service Organization dedicated solely to helping Veterans with spinal cord injuries and disorders, and diseases like MS and ALS.
