NEW YORK – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today announced the selection of Mike Scott as federal security director (FSD) for LaGuardia Airport (LGA). As FSD, he will oversee all TSA operations at LaGuardia Airport and operations at Long Island MacArthur (ISP) and Westchester County (HPN) airports, and Manhattan Heliports, all in New York.

"Mike joins us from a long career in mass transit and public safety. He is a seasoned leader in his field and will be a true asset to the TSA in New York," said Mo McGowan, assistant administrator of the Office of Security Operations.

Scott has spent more than 38 years in construction and engineering management as well as the management and direction of large organizations. He was responsible for operating budgets in excess of $300 million and capital program budgets of $500 million while employed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Scott has directed numerous critical response and recovery operations, including the aftermath of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack. He prepared the functional design and Concept of Operations for the Port Authority's first Emergency Operations Center and new Central Police Desk, which were put in operation in 2004.

On Nov. 19, 2001, President Bush signed the Aviation and Transportation Security Act, which created TSA and established the authority of the FSD. The FSD is the chief federal security officer at the airport and in the region and the first point of contact when a security issue arises.
