WASHINGTON – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today named Donald Drummer as Federal Security Director (FSD) for Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Drummer has been Acting Federal Security Director at Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) since February 2011 and prior to that position served as Deputy Federal Security Director at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) beginning in January 2010.

During his tenure at JFK, Drummer assisted the Federal Security Director with the management of a security force of over 2,250 officers at one of the busiest airports in the country. He was responsible for all aspects of TSA security operations, including oversight for passenger and baggage screening, regulatory compliance, personnel administration, operations, training, workforce development, and process improvements.

"Don has done an outstanding job at JFK and BWI and has proven himself in challenging operational environments," said Lee Kair, TSA's Assistant Administrator, Office of Security Operations. "Don's dedication and proven track record as an exemplary leader will facilitate a seamless continuation of operations for the workforce and will help him tackle the management, communications and leadership demands of this position."

Prior to joining TSA, Drummer completed 30 years of service in the U.S. Army as a Colonel with extensive experience in leading, training and supporting war-fighting units and military communities in the United States and overseas. He culminated his military career as Deputy Director of the Northeast Region, U.S. Army Installation Management Command with responsibility for leading, integrating and synchronizing support for 20 Army bases in 13 states.

Drummer replaces Barbara Bonn Powell as FSD at Newark Liberty, who recently accepted a senior leadership position with TSA's Office of Human Capital at the agency's headquarters in Arlington, VA. Now in her ninth year with TSA, Powell has served as FSD at Newark Liberty since July 2007 and previously served as Deputy FSD at Newark Liberty and acting Deputy Assistant Administrator for TSA's Office of Security Technology in the last quarter of 2009.

Drummer holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Business Administration degree from Kansas State University, and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College. He is the recipient of several Legion of Merit awards and the Distinguished Service Medal.
