Howard County area residents can apply easily for TSA Pre✓®
Local Press Release
Tuesday, August 25, 2015

COLUMBIA, Md. - The Transportation Security Administration has opened an enrollment site in Columbia, Maryland, in  Howard County for its TSA Pre✓® Application Program. The application process allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to enroll directly in the TSA Pre✓® expedited screening program that allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels bag in a carry-on, in select airport screening lanes.

Travelers in the region can go through a pre-enrollment process online at tsa.gov and complete their background interview at the application center. The interview process typically takes only 10 minutes. This new TSA Pre✓® application center is located 10015 Old Columbia Road, Suite B81, Columbia, MD 21046. It is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 5 p.m. Another nearby TSA Pre✓® application center is located in the Point Breeze Business Center at 2200 Broening Highway, Suite 110 in Baltimore, MD 21224 and is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

TSA began to open its first TSA Pre✓® application centers at the end of 2013 and already more than 1.4 million people have signed up for the expedited screening program. Since the initial launch, TSA has opened more than 330 application centers across the country including the new one in Columbia. As application centers have opened nationwide, more travelers are able to apply directly to TSA’s popular expedited screening program.

The TSA Pre✓® application process allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to go through a pre-enrollment process online at tsa.gov and visit an application center to provide biographic information (e.g. name, date of birth, address, etc.), fingerprints, payment and valid identity and citizenship/immigration documentation. All TSA Pre✓® program applicants must visit an application center in person to verify their identity and citizenship/immigration status as well as to provide fingerprints.

The TSA Pre✓® application program requires a background check, fingerprints, and an application fee of $85 for a five-year membership. Once approved, travelers will receive a Known Traveler Number and will have the opportunity to utilize TSA Pre✓® lanes at security checkpoints at more than 150 participating airports and on 12 major airlines including: Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, OneJet, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America.

Previously, passengers had only been eligible through existing programs such as U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Global Entry program and frequent flier programs with certain airlines, but the application centers allow travelers to apply directly for the expedited screening program.

As always, TSA continues to incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the airport and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.
