AUSTIN, Texas — The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) today announced the opening of a TSA Pre✓® application center conveniently located in the baggage claim area across from carousels three and four. TSA Pre✓® enables members to enjoy an expedited security screening experience; there is no need to remove shoes, 3-1-1 liquids, laptops, light outerwear or belts.
“Austin-Bergstrom is now one of only 39 airports in the country to have a TSA Pre✓® application center on-site, which will enable more members of our community to apply to enjoy the expedited screening benefits provided by the program,” said AUS Federal Security Director Michael Scott. There is one additional enrollment center in West Austin at 7010 West Highway 71, Suite 160, at the Center of the Hills Shopping Center.
“Now our passengers can experience the convenience of signing up for TSA Pre✓® while they’re here at the airport, whether it’s before they depart or after they land in Austin,” said AUS’s Patti Edwards, chief operating officer. “This is a great new airport amenity for our customers. We’d like to thank TSA officials for their continued partnership in making AUS the airport of choice for Central Texas, and we congratulate you on the opening of this new office.”
This week, TSA announced that the TSA Pre✓® application program had reached a new milestone with more than 2 million travelers enrolled. TSA Pre✓®, which opened its first application center in December 2013, now has 356 centers nationwide.
“We are pleased to announce this milestone as the continued growth of the trusted traveler population allows us to better focus our resources on high-risk, unknown passengers, while facilitating travel for low-risk individuals,” said TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger. “We look forward to the continued expansion of TSA Pre✓® as we continue our drive towards 25 million travelers directly enrolled in DHS traveler programs.”
U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents are eligible to apply for the program. Once approved, travelers will receive a “Known Traveler Number” and will have the opportunity to utilize TSA Pre✓® lanes at select security checkpoints when flying on 13 participating carriers: Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, OneJet, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin America and WestJet. TSA continues to work with industry to expand the number of participating airlines.
Travelers may also enroll in one of three trusted traveler programs offered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection: Global Entry, NEXUS or SENTRI. Members of these programs are eligible to participate in TSA Pre✓® and do not need to apply separately; once successfully enrolled in a CBP trusted traveler program, participants must utilize their “PASSID” as their Known Traveler Number.
