MISSOULA, Mont. - The Transportation Security Administration announced today that TSA Pre✓® enrollment will be available for a two-week period at Missoula International Airport (MSO) from April 4 through 15, 2016.
TSA Pre✓® is an expedited screening program that allows flyers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and keep 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels in a carry-on bag. A dedicated TSA Pre✓® lane opened at MSO in mid-March and four airlines that serve the airport – Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines - participate in TSA Pre✓®.
“Travelers have responded positively to the availability of TSA Pre✓® expedited screening at the MSO security checkpoint and TSA is pleased to be able to provide this service to departing passengers,” said TSA Federal Security Director for Montana Dan Fevold. “Now, local residents can come to the airport in Missoula to enroll in TSA Pre✓® to become eligible for expedited screening on a consistent basis.”
“We are pleased to partner with TSA and not only provide TSA Pre✓® at MSO, but also a convenient way to enroll in the program,” said Airport Director at MSO Cris Jensen. “This program not only improves a passenger’s security screening experience at MSO, but at any airport across the country, making their travels simpler, more streamlined and convenient.”
Since January, TSA Pre✓® enrollment has been offered on a temporary basis in Bozeman and Kalispell where more than 1,700 Montanans enrolled. Now, local residents will have the same opportunity in Missoula.
The enrollment center is located in the MSO terminal in the airport authority conference room, near the restaurant. Enrollment is available weekdays starting Monday, April 4 through Friday, April 15 from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Travelers who are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents can begin the process by pre-enrolling online at the Universal Enrollment website. Click on the words, “Get Started” and begin the pre-enrollment process. Follow the prompts and set up an appointment to visit the enrollment center at MSO. Walk-ins are also accepted.
More information on the application process is available on tsa.gov. Please note that applicants must bring a current U.S. passport or their driver’s license and certified copy of their birth certificate.
Applicants are required to make an in-person visit to the enrollment center to verify citizenship or immigration status, as well as to provide fingerprints. There is a nonrefundable application processing fee of $85.
Once approved, passengers will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) making them eligible to utilize TSA Pre✓® lanes on a consistent basis at security checkpoints at airports nationwide. Travelers are encouraged to save their KTN in their frequent flyer profiles with the airlines. Children 12 and younger are permitted to use the TSA Pre✓® lane when traveling with a TSA Pre✓® eligible parent or guardian.
All members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including those serving in the Reserves and National Guard, are eligible for expedited screening without enrolling in TSA Pre✓®. They do not need to be in uniform and they can use it while on personal or official travel.
Members of the Armed Forces should use their 10-digit Department of Defense number located on the back of their Common Access Card as their KTN when making flight reservations. Eligible individuals should also update their Defense Travel System profile for official travel.
Nationwide, more than 2.1 million passengers are screened through airport security checkpoints every day. By enrolling low-risk travelers in TSA Pre✓® and expediting their screening process, transportation security officers are better able to focus their efforts on passengers who present an unknown risk to aviation security.
As always, TSA continues to incorporate random and unpredictable security measures both seen and unseen throughout the airport. All travelers will be screened, and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.
A passenger must be traveling on a participating airline to receive the expedited screening benefits of TSA Pre✓®. Nationwide, 13 airlines participate in TSA Pre✓® including Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, OneJet, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin America and WestJet.
