HOUSTON – Houston-area travelers now have two more ways to apply for the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) popular Pre✓® program with the opening of application centers at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU).

“With the opening of permanent application centers at both Bush and Hobby airports, many more Houston-area travelers will be able to enroll in TSA Pre✓®,” said TSA IAH Federal Security Director Gerry Phelan.

In addition, a temporary application center will be open Tuesday, Aug. 23 – Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Houston Airport Marriott at Bush Intercontinental.  Hours are 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Travelers who are enrolled in TSA Pre✓® are permitted to keep on their shoes, belts and light jacket, and can leave their laptops and 3-1-1 baggie of liquids and gels in their carry-on bags when they go through a security checkpoint at more than 180 participating airports. Members of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) “trusted traveler” programs, such as Global Entry, SENTRI or NEXUS, automatically receive TSA Pre✓® benefits.

To apply for TSA Pre✓®, travelers may pre-apply at tsa.gov/precheck, where they also make an appointment  to complete the process at an application center. Walk-ins are accepted, but applicants are still encouraged to pre-apply online. Applicants must bring documentation proving identity and citizenship status and submit fingerprints. The application fee is $85 for a five-year membership.

Approved passengers will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) in one to two weeks. Travelers  should enter that number in the “Known Traveler Number” field when booking airline reservations. The KTN can be entered in participating airline frequent flyer profiles, where it will be stored for future reservations.

Participating airlines include: Aeromexico, Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Airlines, American Airlines, Cape Air,  Delta Air Lines, Etihad Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Seaborne Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country, United Airlines, Virgin America and WestJet.
