DES MOINES, Iowa - – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today announced that a temporary TSA Pre✓® application center will be open at Des Moines International Airport (DSM) from Feb. 20 - 24.  The application center will be located on the main floor of the airport in the waiting area from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday of that week.

TSA Pre✓® is an expedited screening program that enables members to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt in designated screening lanes. Passengers also can keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels baggie in a carry-on.

“This is a great opportunity for travelers in the Des Moines area to apply for TSA Pre✓®,” said TSA Iowa Federal Security Director David Dailey. “We’ve had a TSA Pre✓® lane here at DSM since October 2013, and travelers tell us they appreciate the expedited screening experience. Now, they will have the added convenience of applying to the program right here at the airport.”

Travelers can make an appointment online by visiting the Travel page on tsa.gov, and then complete the application process in person at an enrollment center like the one at DSM. Walk-ins also will be accepted on a space-available basis. At the application center, applicants will provide fingerprints and proof of citizenship or legal residency and pay an $85 fee, which covers a five-year membership.

Approved members will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) that can be accessed online in about a week. The member should enter the KTN in the “Known Traveler Number” field when booking airline reservations. The KTN also can be stored in the member’s frequent flyer profile with participating airlines.

Today, a total of 30 airlines participate in TSA Pre✓®. All airlines that currently fly out of DSM participate in the program.

There also are two application centers in Des Moines.  For addresses and directions, please visit the Universal Enroll website. For more information, visit tsa.gov or read the frequently asked questions.
