PORTLAND, Oregon - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is hiring Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) to work at Portland International Airport (PDX). There are 12 full- and 48 part-time positions currently available at PDX. Starting salary is $17.61 per hour.

As an incentive, TSA will pay newly-hired TSOs at PDX $500 upon starting with the agency and $500 after one year of service with TSA. To qualify for the recruitment incentive, the employee must come onboard with TSA between now and September 30, 2021.

“TSA at PDX has a proud history of providing first class customer service to the traveling public while carrying out our critical transportation security mission. This dual commitment makes for a rewarding career while working alongside a dynamic team of security professionals,” said TSA Federal Security Director for Oregon Stephen Taber. “We are looking to expand our team and encourage anyone who is interested in learning more about working for TSA to attend the recruitment session. Come see what TSA at PDX has to offer!”

TSA is hosting a two-day recruitment event Tuesday, April 27 and Wednesday, April 28 at the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel located at 8235 NE Airport Way. The hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and no appointment is necessary. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of the Cascades station on the MAX Red Line light rail. On-site parking is available at no cost.

Based on anticipated seasonal travel trends in the months ahead and the fact that the COVID-19 vaccination is available to the general public, TSA has accelerated its hiring and launched local and national efforts to recruit new employees in support of security screening operations. In addition to targeted recruitment and outreach, TSA has supplemented its efforts with paid media campaigns in the Portland area to reach individuals seeking part- and full-time job opportunities.
TSOs at PDX are federal employees. Benefits include paid training, annual and sick leave, health care plans for full- and part-time employees and a generous retirement plan. TSA does not prorate benefits for part-time workers, and veteran’s preference is not required to join the agency.
After six months, TSOs are eligible for pay increases and those who work early mornings, evenings and Sundays receive a shift differential. Overtime opportunities, which are paid at time and a half, are frequently available. TSA is committed to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment and encourages individuals of all backgrounds to apply.
