TSA at New York Area Airports Fully Staffed

Screening Operations Running Smoothly in Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy

Transportation security operations at the three busiest New York area airports are fully staffed by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees with screening operations functioning normally.

TSA continues to work closely with its partners in the federal, state and local governments as well as with airport authorities and other stakeholders to ensure the continuation of effective and efficient security operations as airlines continue to restore flight operations at John F. Kennedy International (JFK), LaGuardia International (LGA) and Newark Liberty International (EWR) airports.

Nearly 280 employees from airports across the country have been deployed to these airports to ensure uninterrupted screening as airline operations resumed. Additionally, 164 personnel have voluntarily deployed as part of the Surge Capacity Force Program.

Federal Air Marshals from the Newark and New York field offices and other TSA employees are conducting wellness checks at the homes of employees who experienced loss or significant damage caused by Sandy. They are also assisting in transporting essential TSA employees to work, and getting critical equipment from headquarters to the impacted area via mission flights.

Passenger movement through the security checkpoints continues to flow normally. TSA’s Rapid Response Team volunteer officers will continue to complement the New York/New Jersey area cadre as long as necessary to keep screening operations running efficiently.
