TSA assistant administrator testifies on surface transportation security

TSA Assistant Administrator Eddie Mayenschein testified before the House Committee on Homeland Security, Subcommittee on Transportation Security, at a hearing titled “Surface Transportation Security” Sept.17 in Washington, D.C.

During the hearing, Mayenschein discussed the importance of securing surface transportation systems and the challenges TSA faces while ensuring the protection of the free movement of people and commerce. To accomplish its mission, TSA works collaboratively with surface transportation operators, local, state and federal security partners to ensure an appropriate security posture. TSA primarily focuses on cooperation, oversight, and regulation to ensure surface transportation systems security.

Mayenschein also remarked on the various programs in place that support surface transportation security including VIPR teams, BASE program, I-STEP, RAILSAFE, and First Observer™. The success of these programs is achieved through collaboration between TSA and industry partners including local and state law enforcement counterparts.
