A Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) team from Las Vegas, Nevada, along with the Phoenix Police Department Transit Enforcement Unit, conducted security operations at transportation venues in support of the 2016 NCAA Football Championship Game on Jan. 11. During this event, VIPR operations were conducted to enhance security for the traveling public at the Sky Harbor International Airport and the Valley Metro Rail.

“Providing security for large scale national security events such as the College Football National Championship is a big undertaking,” said Lieutenant David D. Albertson of the Phoenix Police Department. “As we seek to ensure the safety and security of our citizens utilizing mass transit during these events, and considering the current climate around the world, it is nice to have a federal resource such as the VIPR teams to assist our mission.”

TSA deploys VIPR teams at the request of and in collaboration with federal, state and local transportation stakeholders to prevent and deter acts of terrorism against U.S. transportation systems and during special events.
