WASHINGTON – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today named Karen Shelton Waters as Assistant Administrator for the Office of Acquisition.
Waters joined TSA in 2009 as the Deputy Assistant Administrator/Chief Administrative Officer with the Office of Finance and Administration. In that role, she was responsible for developing and implementing administrative service programs, property management and real estate services for the agency. She also provided oversight and management of approximately $300 million in contracts and ensured the efficient and effective use of resources.
"Her experience and background working in procurement acquisition makes her an exceptional candidate to lead TSA's contracting efforts," said TSA Administrator John S. Pistole. "I am confident she will lead TSA forward as the agency continues to explore the latest technologies and risk-based security screening concepts to enhance the screening experience for travelers."
Before joining TSA, Waters served as the Director of the Administrative Services Division for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food Safety and Inspection Service. She also provided management and oversight for USDA's procurement, property and policy issuance functions, and served as the agency's head contracting officer.
Waters received a Bachelor of Arts from East Carolina University and completed programs at the Federal Executive Institute in Charlottesville, Virginia. She also received a Master's Certificate in Contracting from George Washington University.
