PHILADELPHIA – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today announced the expansion of TSA Pre✓™ operations at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). Now eligible passengers traveling on Alaska, United, Delta and Virgin America may receive expedited screening benefits at the checkpoint in Terminal D/E. TSA Pre✓™ has been available at Checkpoint C in Terminal B/C to participating United and US Airways passengers since September 2012.

TSA Pre✓™ is part of the agency’s larger effort to implement risk-based security concepts that enhance security by focusing efforts on travelers about whom the agency knows less. To date, more than 10 million passengers have experienced TSA Pre✓™ since it launched in October 2011. TSA Pre✓™ is available in 40 airports for eligible passengers traveling on Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America.

“We’re pleased to partner with Alaska, Delta, United, US Airways and Virgin America for the TSA Pre✓™ program in Philadelphia,” said TSA Federal Security Director Robert Ellis. “TSA Pre✓™ enhances security by enabling TSA to make risk assessments on passengers who volunteer information about themselves prior to flying which allows us to optimize our resources while improving the passenger experience.”

TSA recently announced that TSA Pre✓™ participants are eligible for expedited screening benefits on select international travel itineraries. Eligible passengers flying internationally from the U.S. out of participating TSA Pre✓™ airports may receive expedited screening. Additionally, eligible passengers with connecting domestic flights who have arrived in the U.S. on an international flight may use the TSA Pre✓™ lanes when going through the screening process at participating airports.

Passengers that are eligible for TSA Pre✓™ include U.S. citizens of frequent traveler programs, invited by participating airlines. Additionally, U.S. citizens who are members of a CBP Trusted Traveler program and Canadian citizens who are members of CBP’s NEXUS program qualify to participate. Individuals interested in joining a CBP Trusted Traveler program can learn more by visiting www.cbp.gov.

TSA will always incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the airport and no individual is guaranteed expedited screening. TSA’s multi-layered approach to security also includes behavior detection officers, explosives-detection systems, canine teams and federal air marshals, among other measures both seen and unseen.
