TSA Pre✓® comes to Bismarck Airport

Local Press Release
Tuesday, November 24, 2015

BISMARCK, N.D. – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today demonstrated the screening process at Bismarck Airport (BIS) for passengers who are eligible for TSA Pre✓®.

TSA Pre✓® is an expedited screening program that allows select BIS flyers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and keep 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels in a carry-on bag. Three airlines serving BIS – American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines – participate in TSA Pre✓®.

“We are pleased to offer full TSA Pre✓® screening benefits to passengers departing from the Bismarck Airport,” said TSA Federal Security Director for North Dakota David Durgan. “TSA Pre✓® is a signature program of the agency designed for passengers who have enrolled in a Trusted Traveler program. By providing these vetted travelers a streamlined trip through the security checkpoint, TSA officers can focus resources on passengers who may pose a higher risk.”

Residents can sign up locally for TSA Pre✓® and Trusted Traveler status at Badlands Integrity Group (B.I.G.), located at 1035 E. Interstate Avenue in Bismarck, near the Gateway Fashion Mall and just off of the State Street exit from Interstate 94. B.I.G. offers TSA Pre✓® enrollment on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. It will be closed Thursday, November 26 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Travelers who are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents can begin the process by pre-enrolling online here. Click on the words “TSA Pre✓®” in the middle of the page. Follow the prompts to pre-enroll and set up an appointment to visit the application center. Applicants are required to make an in-person visit to an application center to provide fingerprints and valid citizenship/immigration documentation.

Once approved, passengers will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) making them eligible to utilize TSA Pre✓® lanes on a consistent basis at security checkpoints at airports nationwide. Travelers are encouraged to save their KTN in their frequent flyer profiles. Additionally, those who purchase their tickets via a third-party website or travel agency should manually enter their KTN each time they make an airline reservation.

Walk-ins are accepted at the Bismarck application center. However, appointments are recommended and can be booked online up to 30 days in advance. There is a nonrefundable application processing fee of $85.

Individuals enrolled in U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Trusted Traveler programs (including Global Entry, NEXUS or SENTRI) are already eligible for TSA Pre✓®. They should use their PASSID as their KTN.

When a passenger is eligible for TSA Pre✓®, a code is embedded in the barcode of the passenger’s boarding pass. TSA scans the barcode at the checkpoint and the passenger can be referred to the TSA Pre✓® lane where they will undergo expedited screening.

As always, TSA continues to incorporate random and unpredictable security measures both seen and unseen throughout the airport. All travelers will be screened, and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.

Twelve airlines participate in TSA Pre✓® including Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, OneJet, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin America and WestJet. A passenger must be traveling on a participating airline to receive the expedited screening benefits of TSA Pre✓®.
