TSA Pre✓® comes to Minot International Airport

Local Press Release
Friday, April 1, 2016

MINOT, N.D. - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today demonstrated the screening process at Minot International Airport (MOT) for passengers who are eligible for TSA Pre✓®.

TSA Pre✓® is an expedited screening program that allows select flyers departing MOT to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and keep 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels in a carry-on bag. Three airlines that serve MOT – Allegiant, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines – participate in TSA Pre✓®.

“Travelers departing Minot International Airport are now able to enjoy the full benefits of TSA Pre✓®,” said TSA Federal Security Director for North Dakota David Durgan. “TSA Pre✓® is a signature program of the agency designed for passengers who are Trusted Travelers. By providing these individuals a streamlined trip through the security checkpoint, TSA officers can focus their resources on passengers who may pose a higher or unknown risk.”

In order to receive TSA Pre✓® on a consistent basis, travelers who are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents can enroll in one of four Department of Homeland Security Trusted Traveler programs. For information on the programs that include TSA Pre✓® eligibility, visit dhs.gov/tt. Individuals enrolled in NEXUS are already eligible for TSA Pre✓®.

Local residents can sign-up for TSA Pre✓® and Trusted Traveler status at Northern Testing, located at 3108 S. Broadway, Suite E in Minot. Enrollment is offered Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to11:30 a.m.

Interested travelers can begin the enrollment process online and schedule an appointment by visiting universalenroll.dhs.gov. Click on the words, “Get Started.” Applicants are required to make an in-person visit to an enrollment center to verify citizenship or immigration status, as well as to provide fingerprints. Walk-ins are also accepted. There is a nonrefundable application processing fee of $85.

Once approved, passengers will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) making them eligible to utilize TSA Pre✓® lanes on a consistent basis at airport security checkpoints nationwide. Travelers are encouraged to save their KTN in their frequent flyer profiles. Additionally, those who purchase their tickets via a third-party website or travel agency should manually enter their KTN each time they make an airline reservation. NEXUS cardholders should use their PASSID as their KTN. Children 12 and under are permitted to use the TSA Pre✓® lane when traveling with a TSA Pre✓® eligible parent or guardian.

When a passenger is eligible for TSA Pre✓®, a code is embedded in the barcode of the passenger’s boarding pass. TSA scans the barcode at the checkpoint and the passenger can be referred to the TSA Pre✓® lane where they will undergo expedited screening.

All members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including those serving in the Reserves and National Guard, are eligible for expedited screening without enrolling in a Trusted Traveler program. They do not need to be in uniform when using the TSA Pre✓® lane and they can use it while on personal or official travel.

Members of the Armed Forces can use their 10-digit Department of Defense number located on the back of their Common Access Card as the KTN when making flight reservations. Eligible individuals should also update their Defense Travel System profile for official travel.

Earlier this week, TSA began offering TSA Pre✓® benefits to flyers departing Dickinson Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport. Residents of Dickinson and neighboring areas can enroll in TSA Pre✓® at Badlands Integrity Group, located at 366 21st Street E in Dickinson. This location is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

As always, TSA continues to incorporate random and unpredictable security measures both seen and unseen throughout the airport. All travelers will be screened, and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening. To learn more about TSA Pre✓®, visit tsa.gov/tsa-precheck.
